The heating system is undoubtedly one of the most critical components of your home, especially during the winter. It provides you and your family with a reliable source of warmth; however, with heavy, regular use, the equipment may develop several issues that require the prompt attention of a heating repair company. Even top-of-the-line heating systems can break down periodically, requiring immediate repair. Here are a few of the most common heating problems you may experience.

Ignition or Pilot Light Problems

If there is a problem with the ignition or pilot light on the heating system it will only intermittently blow out warm air or will frequently blow out cold air. You can easily check the equipment to determine if the pilot light has gone out, but it isn't advisable that you relight the pilot light yourself. If the pilot light is malfunctioning, it may be a problem, such as a leak in the gas line that can be dangerous, so it's best to contact a heating contractor to inspect and relight the furnace for you. It is important that you have a heating repair service inspect the furnace as soon as possible because if the furnace continues to blow out cold air, not only will it make your home extremely uncomfortable, but it will lead to increased energy bills as well.

Air Flow Problems

If you are noticing rooms that are colder than others or minimal air coming through the heating vents, it may be due to the air leaking through the air ducts. If there are holes or poorly connected ducts, the warm air coming from the furnace will seep out through the ducts, causing in interference in the air flow. Proper air flow is essential for the comfort of your home and the efficiency of your heating system. It is generally difficult for homeowners to diagnose this type of problem, so you should contact a heating repair service as soon as you notice a difference in the air flow.

Heater Making Strange Sounds

You may notice strange sounds just as the heater is turning on or off, or you may hear unusual noises throughout the entire time the heater is running. Some unusual sounds you hear may include squeaking, rumbling, rattling or grinding. These types of sounds are often caused by an issue with the burner or other mechanical components, such as a loose or broken fan belt.  You shouldn't hear any type of loud or unusual sound coming from the heating system, so you should contact a heating contractor as soon as you notice an unusual noise. Delaying heating repairs when you are hearing loud noises can cause more damages, so schedule an inspection as soon as possible.

One of the most common causes for heating repairs is due to a lack of maintenance. The good news is this is also one of the easiest problems to solve. Your home's heating system should be inspected and maintained routinely. With regular maintenance and inspections, your heating repair contractor will be able to catch potential issues before they become a serious problem. Aside from not keeping your home warm during the winter, a heating system that hasn't been regularly maintained will typically work less efficiently and ultimately cause an increase your heating costs.

About Me
Troubleshooting HVAC Issues

About a year ago, I realized that our air conditioner just wasn't cutting it. Our home was constantly hot and humid, even though our air conditioner was running almost all the time. In addition to driving up our energy bill, my entire family was tired of sweating constantly. To resolve the problem, we decided to hire an HVAC contractor to come out and fix the problem. He figured out that our compressor was damaged, and he replaced it for us. After that, our system ran great again. This blog is here for anyone who has ever had trouble diagnosing air conditioning problems.
